Parents and Carers

At Little Digmoor, we take the views of our families, parents and the local community very seriously. We value your input and take your opinions, along with pupil voice, into consideration when making decisions relating to our school. It is important to us that we hear your views, especially on ways that we can improve. We are an ever-evolving school and it is through strong partnerships with the local community that we can continue to strive for academic excellence for our pupils.

During our recent parents evening, we asked parents and carers to take time to fill out a parent survey. The responses were overwhelmingly positive but there were some areas that, as a school, we will address and improve as a result of your comments.  Below, you can see the results of the survey and some of the changes we have made as a result. As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child, our door is always open.

These are some of the comments parents made when asked about the strengths of the school:

  • “Great communication, children’s needs are number one priority.”
  • “Concerns are always handled very well and the teachers are very supportive.”
  • “Every child is valued and cared for.”
  • “School listens to children and families – always there to help.”

There were also suggestions for improvements.  The Senior Leadership Team have looked at how we can improve in the areas you highlighted.  These are some of the areas you mentioned – and what we are doing to improve them.

  • Communication. Some parents felt that communication was sometimes a bit last minute.  We apologise that sometimes there are last minute changes and we do try to keep them to a minimum.  We try to get messages out using different media – ClassDojo is the main way – and we also use text messages and the website as well as Facebook, Instagram and twitter.  Weekly newsletters are on ClassDojo and the website but if you would like a paper copy you can pick one up from the office.  We have ordered a noticeboard for outside the gate so that posters, newsletters, messages etc can be posted there so that you can check them at the beginning/end of the day.

  • Extra-curricular clubs. Some parents were dissatisfied with the variety of clubs on offer. We do offer a wide range of clubs (far more than most schools) and the clubs are chosen by the children through our school council process. Please encourage your child to bring up any clubs they would like to attend in their school council meetings. If you have ideas for clubs that you would like us to consider please let us know.

  • Knowing what your children learn. Some parents were disappointed that they did not have more information about what their children are learning.  We will put this right by posting our plans on the website at the beginning of each half term.  We have also resumed our invitations to celebration assemblies following the Covid_19 restrictions.  We have been able to hold face-to-face parents evenings and you will shortly receive your child’s annual report.  We will be discussing how we can improve communication with you both about the curriculum and your child’s progress.

  • Golden Time. There was a concern that we no longer have Golden Time. Golden Time was a period on a Friday afternoon where the children got to choose various activities and was linked to the behaviour policy. Children lost golden time for behaviour incidents during the week. Now we have our new behaviour policy there is no need for Golden Time as children lose privileges instantly when needed.  We have replaced Golden Time with Enrichment which is a time when children can access activities not usually on the curriculum.  This is an entitlement for all children and cannot be lost regardless of behaviour.

Thank you once again for taking the time to give us feedback on how we are doing.
